Distinguished and Famous people from Beachmere

Beachmere's history includes the person whose homestead supplied its name and community organisers whose work has helped residents meet, learn and respond to emergencies. Their contributions belong to very different periods of the town's development.

🌾 Thomas Edwin Bonney

Thomas Edwin Bonney took up land in 1870 and built the homestead from which Beachmere takes its name. Council research traces his land application to September 1869 and identifies him as a Tasmanian-born settler who came to the Caboolture–Toorbul district. The name combined the sandy shoreline with the marshy ground behind it. Bonney died in 1907. His role is a specific part of the town's colonial history, rather than a claim that the area's human history began with his arrival.

🤝 Karen Harris

Karen Harris has been recognised for community work through the Beachmere Area Network Group, known locally as BANG. As its president, she helped bring the Beachmere Hub through negotiations and renovation to opening as a shared community space. In Queensland parliamentary remarks about the 2022 floods, she and the group were acknowledged among those at the heart of the local response. The record links her with both the everyday task of bringing residents together and help during a major disruption.
